Two PSU rugby players to face trial for arson

By: Marc Stempka

BELLEFONTE, Pa. -- Two Penn State University rugby players will face trial for allegedly setting their teams equipment shed on fire.

Christopher Petri, 22, and Sean Herbert, 21, were charged last week with eight felony counts each, including arson, for allegedly setting the shed on fire on Jan. 15. Both waived their preliminary hearings Monday in Centre County court.

Police said the two admitted that they were not happy with their coach and the direction the club was heading and that they were intoxicated when they used lighter fluid to set the shed on fire.

Penn State suspended the rugby team Friday while the arson remained under investigation. The team is part of the schools club sports program.

Both men remain free on bail.
