Dr. Seuss' birthday celebrated by elementary students

By: WJAC Web Staff

BARNESBORO, Pa. -- Thousands of school districts across the county and in our region are taking a part in Read Across America this week.

This program was started to honor the beloved author Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.

Every year around Seuss birthday elementary students dress up as Dr. Seuss characters and listen as guest readers visit and share the classic stories.

Cambria County Commissioner Tom Chernisky stopped by several schools, including Northern Cambria Elementary, Monday.

Reading is not a bad thing, its a good thing, said Chernisky. From reading magazine article to chapter books, to a newspaper, reading educated you and the more you know the easier things get.

Chernisky said he has taken a part in the program for several years and hopes to continue teaching children the importance of reading.
