Police: Frozen slush on windshield causes truck crash

By: WJAC Web Staff

ELDER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A truck toppled over onto its side in Cambria County after slush was splashed onto the drivers windshield, police said.

Hastings police said in a post on their Facebook page that a tri-axle overturned along Route 36 in Elder Township Thursday morning after another truck heading in the opposite direction splashed slush onto the tri-axle's windshield.

A Cambria County emergency dispatch supervisor said the crash was reported at about 7:15 a.m. in the 1400 block of Main Street at the intersection with Yeager Road.

Police said the tri-axle driver, whose name was not available, said an oncoming tractor-trailer hit an area of ice and slush, throwing it onto his windshield, and with the cold weather conditions, it froze instantly, blocking his view.

Police said the driver was able to steer the truck off the roadway, but before stopping it tipped on to its side. The driver was treated for minor injuries.
