Blair Co. house destroyed by fire

By: WJAC Web Staff

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Fire tore through and destroyed a house in Blair County, proving a difficult battle for firefighters dealing with the home's location and rapidly freezing temperatures.

Crews were dispatched to the house fire at the intersection of Juniata Gap Road and Westwood Park Road in Logan Township just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

United Fire Department Chief Travis Lunglhofer said crews had a tough time fighting the flames because of equipment freezing the changing weather conditions.

"We tried to get [an] extinguish effort underway here, [but were] hampered by high winds, a lot of ice, frozen equipment and lack of water supply up here," Lunglhofer said. "We're kind of in dead end roads and real tight quarters to get trucks in and out."

No one was injured in the fire and the American Red Cross was called to assist the family, officials said.

At least six fire departments were called to the scene, officials said. A state police fire marshal was investigating the cause.
