Coroner's conference highlights death investigations

By: WJAC Web Staff

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Law enforcement officials from throughout the area gathered for a special conference geared toward helping them better handle crime scenes that involve death investigations.

The Cambria County Coroner's Office hosted the conference at Penn Highlands Community College in Richland Township. Police officers and those who work in investigation labs were on hand for training in new techniques on how to better handle crime scenes.

Cambria County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeffrey Lees said a big part of the event is about understanding the latest technology needed to work with death investigations.

Lees said the focus was dealing with crime-related deaths, drug-related deaths and using dentistry in helping coroners make positive identifications of victims.
