Is this the end of student created holiday State Patty’s Day?
By: Lauren Hensley
STATE COLLEGE, Pa.-- The numbers are in and State Patty's Day weekend was much quieter at Penn State this year than in year's past. Arrests were down by about 41% as police responded to about 300 incidents; compare that with the year 2011 when police responded to more than 600 incidents. Is this the end of the party? 6News asked the State College police chief.
What I am hopeful is that it is the end to a day where the only focus is on people coming from across Pennsylvania and the east coast to engage in really nothing but dangerous drinking what I hope it now is that this year is opening to finding something that could be really special to this community to have in the weekend after THON and before spring break, Chief Tom King said.
According to King, student organizations along with Borough officials are working to develop ideas on how to improve next years event.
