National Signing Day: Local athletes sign, talk college choices
For numerous high school football players from across the region, National Signing Day is the biggest day of their lives. Even though schools across the region cancelled classes Wednesday, 6 Sports attended a few local signing ceremonies.
At Ligonier Valley High School, 6-7 tight end Alec Bloom signed his letter of intent to play at the University of Connecticut. Bloom will also participate in the Pennsylvania vs. Ohio Big 33 Classic this June.
At Bishop McCort High School, defensive tackle Christian Roman inked his letter to play at Millersville while teammate Tyler Rugg signed to play at nearby Shippensburg University.
Clearfield High School placed two of its football players on Division 1 rosters; Christian Lezzer will play linebacker at Boston College while teammate Hunter Keith will play defensive line at Marist. Lezzer was unable to sign his letter of intent at his high school Wednesday, instead signing it at Arlington, Texas' AT&T Stadium where he's participating in a USA Football all-star event.
Other local players expected to sign this week include Chestnut Ridge TE Beau Bosch (Lafayette), Richland wide receiver Kyle Flick (Shippensburg) and quarterback Matt Shaffer (Slippery Rock), Bishop Guilfoyle defensive lineman Nick Little (Slippery Rock), West Branch offensive lineman Morgan Selepack (Lock Haven), and State College quarterback Patrick Irwin (Stony Brook). Philipsburg-Osceola kicker Nick Boumehri plans to walk-on to Penn State's roster.
