PIAA Second Round Girls: Bellwood, Tussey, State High fall short

Three area girls basketball teams saw their seasons come to a close Tuesday in the second round of the PIAA basketball playoffs.

In Girls AA, Bellwood-Antis lost to Burrell 34-29. The Lady Devils, which failed to make a field goal in the second quarter, outscored the Lady Bucs 11-2 in the third quarter to take a 25-20 lead.

Burrell responded with a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter and take a 30-25 lead it would never relenquish. Bellwood had a chance to take the lead and then tie late in the game, but an Ana Hollen travel followed by Karson Bailey's partially blocked three-point attempt spelled the end for the Lady Blue Devils.

Elsewhere in Girls AA, Tussey Mountain fell to District 10 champion General McLane, 45-39. Tussey trailed 37-29 early in the fourth quarter, but used a 7-1 run to pull within two late. The Lady Titans would get no closer.

In Girls AAAA, North Allegheny used stifling defensive pressure and a quick-strike fast break offense to defeat State College 58-44.
