Stephens-Howling Talks Sled Hockey & Free Agency

By Pat Welter

Twelve year old Lorenzo Favor called in one.

He reached out to Johnstown native and free agent NFL running back LaRod Stephens-Howling to join him in the sport he loves.

Favor plays for the Sitting Bulls, a sled hockey team that gives kids with disabilities the chance to play hockey.  Sunday was the Bulls annual fundraiser game where they play against local media.  Stephens-Howling was happy to play along.

"I hope it inspires that there are no excuses," Stephens-Howlings said.  "If you put your mind to something you can do anything."

Howling has spent the off season rehabbing his knee after tearing his ACL versus the Tennesee Titans while playing for Pittsburgh in 2013.  He says he'll be ready for week one and is focusing on getting on the field for summer workouts. As for signing with the Steelers he said the process would have to play out.

"It would be nice to stay home.  I loved it here when I was here last it year, you just never know though its all a business and we'll see what happens."

Stephens-Howling is currently training at a private gym in Bridgeville, PA.
