PIAA Class A: Guilfoyle girls survive; Berlin, Claysburg fall

Bishop Guilfoyle's girls basketball team has become the "Cardiac Kids."

The Lady Marauders rallied from an eight-point third quarter deficit to beat Serra Catholic 65-63 in the PIAA Class A second round.

Lili Benzel scored 33 points for Bishop Guilfoyle. The freshman also hit a go-ahead free throw with 15 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Marauders the lead.

Bishop Guilfoyle will face District 9 champion Clarion on Saturday at a site to be determined. The state quarterfinals game will be a rematch from last year's state quarterfinals.

In other local girls Class A second round games, Berlin lost to state top-ranked Vincentian Academy 61-48 while Claysburg-Kimmel fell to District 10 champion Kennedy Catholic 45-38.
