6 Sports On The Mat: PIAA Wrestling Championship Saturday

HERSHEY -- Brookville High School senior Brock Zacherl won the Class AA state wrestling title at 138 pounds, leading a group of twenty-six wrestlers from the WJAC-TV viewing area to win medals at the PIAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday at the Giant Center in Hershey.

Zacherl's teammates Taylor Ortz won third place at 113 pounds and Zach Vroman took third place at 145 pounds. Brookville finished second place as a team behind Bethlehem Catholic of District 11.

Also at 113 pounds, Bedford sophomore Jon Gabriel lost in the finals to Bethlehem Catholic's Luke Karam, 5-0.

Richland senior Nico Pecora fell to unbeaten Kane High School senior Evan Delong, 12-3, in the 170 pound finals.

At 220 pounds, West Branch's Buzzy Maines lost to Avella's Jake Temple 3-1 in a rematch of the Southwest Regional Finals. Temple handed Maines his only two losses of the season.

Ryan Easter made school history, becoming Bedford High School's first four-time state medalist. Easter won his 7th place match in overtime.

In Class AAA, DuBois' Tom Sleigh finished his season with a 3rd place finish at 195 pounds. Sleigh finished his season with one loss.
