Communities Prepare For Potential Flooding

Flood preparations were under way Thursday across the Alleghenies as officials brace for the worst.

A flood watch is in effect Thursday evening and into the weekend for many parts of the Allegheny region.

Latest Severe Weather Alerts

Melting snow has formed large puddles of water in many streets, and with rain in the forecast, community leaders in Somerset were making sure the catch basins were free and there were no large objects in streams.

While officials there said they don't expect flooding to be massive, they said they want to be ready.

"With the expected rainfall, we need to be as prepared as we can and respect the forecast and not overreact, but be as prepared as we can," said Benedict Vinzani Jr., Somerset Borough manager.
