WJAC-TV Weather Plus!

Read More About This Exciting Channel!

For 75 years, NBC has been an innovator in bringing sights and sounds over the airwaves to America's living rooms. From radio... to television... to color... to High Definition. Now, NBC is on the leading edge of broadcasting's latest innovation... the creation of America's first all digital broadcast network. WEATHER PLUS!

WHAT IS WEATHER PLUS?

Imagine turning on the TV at any time, day or night, and immediately getting the local weather report, including the 5-day forecast, all at a glance. Weather Plus is the first digital weather network bringing instant local and national weather to your viewers 24 hours a day. Backed by the #1 NBC News network and hundreds of NBC stations across America, Weather Plus will be the world's largest weather news service. Not only is your local weather always on, but detailed reports are delivered from your own neighborhoods by the familiar local NBC weather personalities your viewers already know and trust. WJAC-TV brings this new channel into your home via digital cable (Available on WJAC-DT Channel 6.2 or check your local listings).

In a recent study conducted by NBC Universal, 67 percent of television viewers polled listed local broadcast stations as their primary source of weather information. NBC Weather Plus will become that information lifeline for communities - coupling the national strength of NBC News with the depth of expertise at local NBC stations. With a network of more than 1,000 local reporters and meteorologists in more than 200 markets, NBC Weather Plus will become the country's weather powerhouse.

"Weather affects us all, locally and nationally. Travelers, schoolteachers, senior citizens and parents alike will be able to rely on the first weather network that masters both national coverage and local depth," said Brandon Burgess, NBC Universal executive vice president. "What makes NBC Weather Plus even more exciting is the unprecedented broadcast affiliate-network partnership dedicated to offering innovative services digitally over the air."

"By providing NBC Weather Plus over a portion of our digital spectrum, we're introducing new local services for which there is clear consumer demand and we're responding to a compelling public-service imperative," Terry Mackin, Hearst-Argyle Television executive vice president and chairman of the NBC Affiliate Board noted. "The network will be available to our digital viewers in addition to and alongside of full high-definition television shows wherever and whenever HDTV programming is available from our NBC stations."

NBC Weather Plus launches with an inventive design, including the distinctive L bar on the perimeter of the screen, providing local weather information in real time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, even during commercials - a first for a weather network. The broadcast will feature a balance of national and local coverage, with live broadcasts throughout the day from national and local forecasters, and a mix of real-time video, meteorological reports and dynamic graphics.

"More Americans watch NBC News than any other news organization in the world."
