Jones, Thompson Named WNBA Players Of The Week

New York, NY -- (Sports Network) - Asjha Jones of the Connecticut Sun and Tina Thompson of the Houston Comets were selected as the WNBA's top players for the period ending July 27.Jones took the Eastern Conference award after averaging 18 points and 5.5 rebounds, and shooting 50 percent from the floor in leading the first-place Sun to a 2-0 record. It is Jones' third career honor. Thompson led the Comets to a 3-0 week after averaging 17.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and three assists. Houston extended its winning streak to five games to move above .500 at 14-12 overall, thanks in large part to Thompson, who earned her fourth weekly honor and first since 2004. The WNBA will take a break from game action during most of August for the Olympics.
