Storm Defense, Bird Reign Over Comets

Seattle, WA -- (Sports Network) - Sue Bird poured in a game-high 22 points as Seattle jumped out to a big lead and never looked back in a 66-49 win over Houston in the WNBA's return to action following the U.S. women's basketball team's gold-medal performance at the Beijing Olympics.Bird shot 9-of-15 from the field and nailed three trifectas in leading the Storm to their third win in four games. Yolanda Griffith chipped in nine points and nine rebounds in the win. Sancho Lyttle came off the bench to log a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough for the Comets to extend their winning streak to six games. Roneeka Hodges also chipped in 10 points, while Tina Thompson shot just 2-of-10 from the field to finish with eight points. Seattle's defense shut down the frontcourt of Houston in the first half en route to taking a 38-24 lead at the break, allowing the Storm to cruise the rest of the way.
