Leslie Paces Sparks Over Silver Stars In West Finals Opener

Los Angeles, CA -- (Sports Network) - Lisa Leslie scored 22 points, pulled down seven rebounds and blocked four shots as the Los Angeles Sparks beat the San Antonio Silver Stars, 85-70, in the opener of the best-of-three Western Conference finals.Candace Parker tallied 14 points, 12 boards and three blocks for the Sparks, who also got 14 points apiece from Marie Ferdinand-Harris and Temeka Johnson. Ann Wauters had 18 points and Sophia Young ended with 16 for the Silver Stars, who also received 10 from Vickie Johnson. Game 2 will be Saturday afternoon at San Antonio. The Silver Stars surged to a 26-17 lead after the first quarter, but LA rallied by outscoring San Antonio, 31-13 in the second. That included a 20-5 spurt to end the period. Los Angeles continued to hold the lead going into the fourth, at 66-57, and remained comfortably in front the rest of the way.
